Marriage Licenses:

• Both parties must be present at the time of application. Staff is not obligated to travel elsewhere to witness the completion of an application.

• Blood tests are not required.

• Marriage ceremony may take place anywhere in New Hampshire within 90 days from the date of application.

• The fee for a marriage license is $50.00 payable to the Town of Goffstown by cash or check only.

• The marriage license will be prepared at application time. Allow 1 hour to complete the application, review information and sign.

• The following documentation must be presented at the time of application:

• Valid Photo Identification (i.e. driver’s license or passport)

• A certified copy, of the death certificate if prior spouse or partner is deceased *

• A certified copy of the final divorce decree, annulment or dissolution, not a photocopy (A certified document will bear a raised seal or a crimped stamp mark.) *

• A certified copy of each applicant’s birth certificate, not a photocopy, to verify proof of age, name at birth, parents’ full names, their names at birth and places of birth *

• Be prepared to answer the following questions:

• Upon Execution of this Marriage, each person shall be legally known as by entering Middle name and Last name only

• If known, the name and address of your officiant (person performing your ceremony)

• After the record of ceremony is filed, you may obtain Certified Copies of your marriage certificate. They are $15.00 for the first copy and $10.00 for each subsequent copy issued at the same time as the initial copy.

*Certified documents that do not appear in English must be translated.

Death, Birth, Marriage Certificates:

Anyone, whether a New Hampshire resident or not, may go to ANY New Hampshire City or Town Clerk’s office to apply for a copy of a NH birth, death, divorce or marriage certificate.

If the event happened during the following timeframe:
Birth: 1935 – Present (except 1949 and 1950)
Death: 1965 – Present
Marriage: 1960 – Present
Divorce: 1979 – Present

If the event happened prior to the above dates, the applicant must go to the town/city where the event took place.
