Minor-Major Permit Definitions

MINOR PERMIT: Consist of smaller projects that, by the current code, would still require a building permit. See examples below, but not limited to these examples:

  1. Replace a door or window header, making larger or smaller- altering the structure.
  2. Light framing
  3. Re-building a staircase
  4. Repairing a roof rafter, ridge pole or minor structure repairs due to damage or maintenance needs.
  5. Sill repairs
  6. Kitchen or bathroom remodels not requiring major structural changes.

MAJOR PERMIT: Consist of larger projects. See examples below, but not limited to these examples:

  1. Gut the interior of a home.
  2. Major structural repairs
  3. Jacking, lifting, raising homes or larger structures
  4. Adding dormers, additions
  5. Changing a roof line or pitch, exterior walls or major interior framing which affects structure.
