Barnstead Old Home Day 2007
Baking Events
Barnstead's Old Home Day includes two very popular events that center around baked goods: the Cakewalk and the Blueberry Baking Contest.
Cakewalk contestants pay an entry fee of one dollar to walk around a circle of frisbees with numbers on them. Music is played...the contestants circle...the music stops...a number is drawn...who is the winner? The person who is standing at the frisbee with same number as that just drawn gets to take their pick of any of the scrumptious baked goods laid out on the long table! A sweet treat, indeed!
The Cakewalk is a lot of fun and draws a lot of contestants. It depends, however, on the donation of numerous baked goods from members of the community. You can help by volunteering to bring your own favorite confection. Any home-baked or store-bought dessert is welcome -- it doesn't have to be a cake. Donations can be brought to the bandstand on Barnstead Old Home Day, August 25, at Barnstead Parade. Please have donated baked goods at the bandstand by 10:30 a.m.
The Blueberry Baking Contest is a popular event for all the wonderful cooks we have in town. This year, you can bake anything with blueberries, not just pies. Be creative: pick some blueberries, get out the family recipe, and have the fun of joining in this annual Old Home Day event. We encourage joint efforts by family members.
The blueberry baked goods are judged by a panel of local experts. This year, we hope to put together a panel of judges from the Town of Barnstead employees. Our talented town cooks are going to pose a tough challenge for the judges to select the best entry!
Pre-registration for the Blueberry Baking Contest is encouraged. Registration forms are available at www.barnstead.org/About Barnstead. Entries will be accepted at the bandstand until 2:00 p.m. on Old Home Day
