Barnstead Old Home Day - August 25, 2007
Barnstead Parade Grounds, Barnstead NH
Main Exhibit
The theme for Barnstead's Old Home Day 2007 was "Horse and Carriage". A small parade arrived at the event and were available for viewing.
The Oldest Carriage was submitted by Jim and Nancy Burnham of Antrim, NH. It was a late 1800's Concord Buggy pulled by Bjart a Norwegian Fjord Horse.
Our second entry entered was by Patti Sanborn of Barnstead, NH with a 2000 Bird In Eagle Carriage pulled by Elijah, an Arabian Horse.
Thank you Jim, Nancy, Bjart, Patti and Elijah for braving the heat to give us our parade.

NEW THIS YEAR!
This year, we added two new features to Old Home Day – a Photo/Art Contest and a Youth Talent Show.
The Photo/Art Contest allowed town residents to submit their photos and artwork for consideration by a panel of judges. Entrants were judged by age groups. There was also a coloring contest for the kids. The winning entries were displayed at Old Home Day on the Parade Grounds.
We looked for performers of all talents to enter our first ever Old Home Day Youth Talent Show and what a turnout we got. The entrants were eighteen or younger who could sing, dance or play an instrument. We are not the Barnstead chapter of American Idol, so there was no judging but the showcase of talent was phenomenal!

Barnstead Citizen of the Year Award
The title “Barnstead’s Citizen of the Year” simply means that the nominee must be a town resident. This doesn’t mean they’ve lived here all their lives or spent years on town committees or even been someone that’s known by everyone in town. ALL nominations were accepted and reviewed by a group of judges.
The 2007 Citizen of the Year was awarded to Ed Neister by an overwhelming majority of nominations. His contributions to Barnstead, not only this past year with his tireless efforts to clear the Milfoil weed from the Barnstead lakes and rivers systems but also by his serving on the Planning Board in year's past and his dedication to making Barnstead a better place to live in, have earned him one of Barnstead's most prestigious awards. Thank You Ed for all you have done for our town!
